Dental Veneers Can Help
The thing that has been, to me, one of the biggest benefits is the ability to provide what we call a full porcelain veneer. Essentially of what that consists of, from a mechanical point of view, is on a tooth you've got the outer layer which is the enamel layer. That enamel layer, for measurements sake, we're going to use this as two millimeters thick. On a veneer now what you can do is, still staying in the enamel, you can take about a half a millimeter of that enamel off which allows you to get that tooth adjusted just right so that now when you put a veneer on, you got the room for it to fit on there. You got the strength for it to fit on. If a veneer has done well, maintained well, it can be a twenty/twenty-five year restoration or hopefully longer. That's the key to it is proper design from the beginning. That's where so many people I think when they're first starting out, they don't understand that concept.
To me, without a doubt, it's the most rewarding part of dentistry there is. You can finally take someone's teeth and correct them in such a way that it's almost an instantaneous. They go from here to all the sudden, they got to smile and that's wonderful. The techniques, the technologies that are there, the stability of them is all now twenty/twenty-five year old proven technology. It's a safe venture if a person wants to change their smile.
Dental veneers are thin, shell-like pieces of porcelain designed to essentially replace the natural surface of your tooth. Veneers are often used to correct substantial cosmetic problems and sometimes even as a restorative option. They can be used to cover or correct chips, stains, discoloration, fractures, misshapen teeth, mildly misaligned teeth, and more.
How Veneers Are Placed
The placement of porcelain veneers is fairly simple and can be completed in just a few visits to our office. The first visit or two will be used to accurately examine and measure your teeth so that your veneers can be crafted. At the final appointment, we will fit and place your veneers. To place them, we must first remove a small layer of enamel from the surface of your teeth. This process is completely safe and painless, thanks to a local anesthetic. Once we’ve made room on your tooth for the veneer, it is bonded directly in place.
